M&M's (R) Distribution Reality Check Draws Big Crowds at Explore UT

2 March 2013—Explore UT, the "biggest open house in Texas," drew thousands of Texas schoolchildren, families, and other visitors to The University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, March 2. Hundreds of these participants stopped by the Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation's activity table to contribute their data point to the M&M's (R) Distribution Reality Check histogram.

SSC's activity was part of the College of Natural Science's Science Safari that offered participants the opportunity to experience new technologies in the sciences and see the innovative fun in the sciences.

SSC staff, undergraduate teaching assistants, and family all helped guide participants toward discovering whether Mars' claim that each bag of M&M's are 20% orange.

Special thanks to all SSC participants: Amanda Aparico, Tina Nghiem, Ryan Ngo, Marilyn Harris, Michael Mahometa, Kat Snyder, and Erika Hale's family.
