Family Weekend 2012

On October 26-28, 2012, The University of Texas at Austin hosted Family Weekend, an annual fall event that welcomes generations of Longhorn parents to our campus to visit the students and learn about campus life. On Saturday, October 27th, the College of Natural Sciences invited the families to an info day at the Texas Memorial Museum. Each department had volunteer faculty, staff, or students ready to connect with visiting families through hands-on activities. The SSC led an activity called the M&M's Distribution Reality Check, in which different students and their family members tested Mars' claim that each bag contains 20% orange M&M's. Many families participated to see if the claim was indeed true, got to snack on some M&M's, and learned about how statistics can be applied in a fun and delicious way. A big thank you to our SSC Student Ambassadors UGTA Joann Lee, UGTA Amanda Aparicio, MS Statistics student and TA Chris Jackson!
